About

The origins of this handmade candle factory date back to 1862, when Francisca Abella left her native village in Lerida to tackle the adventure of the big city and opened a workshop in Barcelona’s Raval district that made candles. The business was passed from generation to generation, adopting its current name, Cerabella, in the seventies in honour of its founder. In the 1980s, it mounted its creative department, composed of people with multidisciplinary training who also are fully conversant with the artisan trade, a crucial question in being able to explore the expressive possibilities of wax. In the 1990s, the firm began to collaborate with eminent figures from creative worlds such as André Ricard, Javier Mariscal, Óscar Tusquets and Toni Miró. More recently, the firm has worked with Sybilla and Jordi Labanda. In 2009, Cerabella was named a finalist in the product category of the Premio Nacional de Artesanía (National Crafts Awards).
